He graduated from the Turin Conservatory under the guidance of Gabriella Bosio and continued his studies in Lausanne, where he obtained two Master of Arts degrees with Letizia Belmondo. The Haute École de Musique de Lausanne awarded him a special prize for his talent at the end of his studies.

Valerio has distinguished himself as a soloist in numerous international competitions. Highlights include First Prize at the ‘Concorso Internazionale Suoni d’Arpa’ in Saluzzo in 2016, First Prize at the ‘Korea International Harp Competition’ in Seoul in 2018 and First Prize at the ‘Reinl Stiftung Competition’ in Vienna. In 2019 he won the silver medal (Second Prize) at the 11th USA International Harp Competition, where he also received the special prize for the performance of a contemporary piece.

Valerio was funded and promoted in 2014 by the Fondazione CRT in Turin, selected among the best musicians in Italy. He won the Prix Musik 2017 awarded by the Kiefer Hablitzel Stiftung in Bern and in 2018 the Schenk Stiftung in Zofingen selected him among the best musicians in Switzerland. In 2020, he was chosen as artist-in-residence by the Società dei Concerti di Milano.

He has performed in solo and chamber music concerts at major festivals and seasons in Europe, the USA and Korea. We can mention the Menuhin Festival in Gstaad, the Korea Harp Festival in Seoul, the O/Modernt Festival in Stockholm, the Musikdorf in Ernen, Arpa Plus in Zaragoza and Madrid, the Mizmorim Festival in Basel, Incontri Musicali in Milan, Viotti Festival in Vercelli, Unione Musicale in Turin.

His most important performances include Debussy’s Dances in Turin with the Camerata Ducale, R. Gliere’s Concerto in Zofingen with the Aargau Philharmonic and J. Rodrigo’s Aranjuez Concerto in Lausanne with the Lausanne Chamber Orchestra.

Since October 2022 to September 2023, he has held the position of Principal Harp at the Orchestre de la Suisse Romande, based in Geneva, under the artistic direction of Jonathan Nott, where he has played, among others, under the batons of Daniele Gatti, Daniel Harding and Kent Nagano, and performed in major European concert halls.

Since February 2024 he has held the position of Principal Harp in the Fondazione Arena di Verona.

Valerio is keen to expand the harp repertoire and is dedicated to composing original pieces and transcriptions for his instrument. His composition ‘Maschera’ reached the final of the 2021 Inglefield Contest of the US International Harp Competition and was performed at the Composition Forum in Bloomington, Indiana, in July 2022.

From 2017 to 2021 he was harp teacher at the Scuola di Alto Perfezionamento in Saluzzo, home of the ‘Suoni d’Arpa’ harp festival, of which he has been a member of the Artistic Committee since 2020. In 2021, he also began serving as a juror at the Suoni d’Arpa International Harp Competition in Saluzzo.

From 2019 to 2022 he was Professor of harp and chamber music at the Conservatorio Licinio Refice in Frosinone. He held masterclasses in Turin, Rome, Prague and Madrid.
